Churakids Robot Class
Hands-on STEM, side by side
with local Japanese kids.
Your child builds real robots alongside local Japanese students — one of the few off-base activities where they can make friends from the community while learning real STEM skills.
It's not just building. Every month, students sketch their designs in a journal and present their creations to the class. Building, thinking, and communicating — all in one program.
Kids can start from age 5 and progress at their own pace. All enrollment, communication, and scheduling are handled in English — no Japanese required on your end.
More than a robotics class — it's STEM, cultural exchange, and real friendships off base.

Learn Alongside Local Kids
Your child works side by side with Japanese students in a mixed classroom. It's a chance to make real local friends and experience Okinawa beyond the base — through something they both love.

Build → Sketch → Present
Every month, students build a robot, document it in a hand-drawn journal, and present their work to the class. It builds problem-solving, communication, and confidence.

Start From Age 5
Six progressive levels from kindergarten through middle school. Kids level up at their own pace — no pressure, just steady growth that travels with them.

Programming Included
In the later courses, tablet-based programming is introduced. Kids learn to control their robots through code — real STEM skills they'll take with them wherever they go.
A step-by-step curriculum that grows with your child — and travels with them if you PCS.
Pre-PrimaryAge 5–6
Discover the excitement of making a robot move for the first time.
PrimaryGrades 1–2
Learn how motors work through full-scale building guides.
BasicElementary
Understand robot structures and try your own original modifications.
MiddleElementary
Start programming with a tablet to control robot movements.
AdvancedGrades 3+
Read blueprints and build autonomous robots.
ProfessorGrades 5 – Middle School
Learn real programming languages and robotics engineering fundamentals.
Building is just the start. Every month follows these three steps.
Build
Follow the guide, work with the instructor, and assemble a new robot. Once it's running, experiment with your own modifications.

Sketch
Draw a blueprint of the robot and write a journal entry. Record ideas, modifications, and what you learned — all by hand.

Present
Stand up in front of the class and share what you made. Month by month, kids build real confidence speaking in front of others.

Open to anyone — no enrollment required. A great way for your child to hang out with local kids outside of class.

Cooking Club
Kids cook dishes from around the world together — a tasty way to make friends across cultures.

Beach Cleanup Club
Help keep Okinawa's beaches beautiful — a feel-good Saturday morning with local and American kids.

Chess Club
Chess, shogi, and Othello — no common language needed to have a great game. Every Saturday morning.

Farming Club
Grow vegetables in the garden and donate the harvest to the local zoo. Hands in the dirt, not on a screen.
Japanese cultural experiences your kids won't get on base — these are the memories they'll take home.

Parent of a 6-year-old boy
We wanted something off base where our son could meet local kids, and this has been perfect. He's obsessed with the robots, and he's made friends he wouldn't have met otherwise. The monthly presentations have been great for his confidence too.
Parent of an 8-year-old boy
My son talks about his robot builds all week. What surprised me most is how much effort he puts into the journal sketches — he's learning to document and explain his thinking, which is way beyond what I expected from a robotics class. The staff are super responsive in English too, which makes everything easy.
Parent of a 10-year-old girl
I wasn't sure she'd be into robotics, but she absolutely loves it. It's one of the highlights of her week. The best part is she's made Japanese friends here — something that's been hard to do through DoDEA schools alone. It's become a real connection to Okinawa for our family.
Kids can join from age 5 (kindergarten). We have age-appropriate courses all the way through middle school.
No. The instructors speak English and the class materials are in English. Your child will naturally pick up some Japanese from classmates, but it's not required at all.
Not at all. Enrollment, scheduling, and all parent communication are handled in English. No Japanese needed on your end.
